A Library Painting usually shows a Coat of Arms and as the name suggests they all used to be hung in someone’s library. There is no such thing as a Family Coat of Arms. What you will have if your name is Fraser for example is a blue background with either 1, 2 or 3 five petalled flowers or ‘fraises’. This blue background is a common element in all of the Arms recorded under the name of Fraser but there will be another element introduced such as a gold circle or ‘bezant’ if you’re a banker or a quill if you are a lawyer or artist to make it particular to you.

The guinea fowl as a Crest reflects his involvement in Africa. It is holding a baton that is a representation of the baton of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games with which he was heavily involved.

The mantling on this painting, at the Petitioner’s request is unusually complicated. The background on the Shield has been further decorated using ‘diaper’.
The Blazon per Fess, Argent and Vert, a barrulet wavy Azure between a herring drifter Sable in chief and 3 lambs gambolling Argent in base.
The Crest, Shield and Supporters all feature blue or Azure crowned ‘segreant’ griffons. ‘Segreant’ is the term in heraldic language to describe their stance.
The Petitioner’s father came from Bari in Italy and the red and white background to his Shield reflects the colours of the Arms of the town.
