This was commissioned by a gentleman in Canada as a Christmas gift to his son, Jesse Arthur Shipman.
Bookplates are fun! They don’t need to be heraldic but often are. For those who lend out their books or have extensive libraries at home they could be invaluable. Stuck onto the inside front cover of a book it identifies the owner. The use of bookplates goes back centuries.

The story of the ‘Mester Stoor Worm comes from Orkney folklore. Mr Gorie who is Orcadian asked me to interprete this story into a bookplate for him.
The image perfectly depicts the two cats Jack and Stella in the position they are often found in.
The inspiration for this bookplate is obvious with use of an elephant to reflect the gentleman’s surname.
This bookplate was commissioned as a leaving gift from the Lyon Office to Lyon David Sellar.
Designed for my own use it features the herring drifter from my family’s Coat of Arms.
