This bookplate was hand drawn in pencil on illustrators board and completed using Indian ink to define the fine detail.

It was commissioned as a leaving gift from the Lyon Office to Lyon David Sellar.

The shield shows a blacksmith’s hammer, an open book and two cups. The cups are used for the name Sellar. His ancestors were blacksmiths and his career as an academic is reflected in the open book. The border shows his love of cats and fine wines and his wife keeps bees.
