The Shield is more interesting. In ‘chief’ or at the top of the Shield are crossed golf clubs to represent his love of golf and next to that an artist’s palette because his wife is an artist.

In the centre, is a ‘fess’ which is the blue horizontal section across the Shield. On this fess placed an Oscar upon a modified saltire. It is no secret that Sir Sean was a keen supporter of the movement for Scottish independence.

In base or the lowest part of the Shield is a Scottie dog because the couple have one.

Hanging below the Shield is the badge or a Knight Bachelor.
